Our vineyards, located on the best southern slopes of Badacsony, take full advantage of the mountain’s exceptional conditions: the interplay of the sun, Lake Balaton, and the basalt. The sun’s rays fall not only directly on the mountain but also indirectly via the surface of Lake Balaton. The dark basalt stores heat and continuously warms the air near the surface, which rises and “pushes” away rain clouds—resulting in even more sunshine during the summer months, which are crucial for grape ripening.

1840s

The Bezerédj family becomes one of Badacsony’s major vineyard owners. Through the marriage of István Békássy and Emma Bezerédj, the Békássy family arrives in Badacsony.

1897

Following the phylloxera epidemic, István Békássy’s young vineyards are already regarded among the finest plantings in Badacsony.

1918

Returning from the First World War, the younger István Békássy takes over the estate.

1950s

Most of the estate is nationalised. Péter Békássy continues winemaking on the small parcel left to the family and helps preserve Kéknyelű, now a Badacsony speciality.

1990s

After the political transition, Péter Békássy recovers part of the original vineyards and the winery gains new momentum.

2000s

Gábor Békássy modernises and recentres the vineyards in Badacsony. His son István manages the cellar as winemaker.

2021

With the acquisition of additional land, the pre-war estate system has been restored: on five hectares of the mountain’s finest southern slopes, the fifth generation of our family has been making wine continuously since our family’s arrival in Badacsony, and continues to do so today in the same spirit as it has for the past 180 years.
